As I write this, Senator Rand Paul has taken to the Senate floor today in a filibuster to protest the renewal of the Patriot Act.  The Patriot Act is a Bush administration-era law that enables government surveillance on everyday Americans. He wants the government to "stop spying on innocent Americans" in the name of "safety."

Modern day Singapore would not exist without this extraordinary man. Just like America's founding fathers, he was willing to do some of the hard things that make a nation prosperous. Free markets, capitalism, anti-welfare, and no minimum wage helped Singapore prosper. Despite the lack of individual liberty for Singaporeans, the man understood free markets and capitalism and his economic policies were the reason he was able to turn Singapore from a third world country into a first world country in a matter of a few decades. He elevated the lifestyles of all Singaporeans significantly.

Paul said the message (regarding the open letter to Iran) was actually to President Obama. “The message I was sending was to you. The message was to President Obama, that we want you to obey the law, we want you to understand the separation of powers.”

“I signed it to an administration that doesn’t listen, to an administration that at every turn tries to go around Congress, because you think you can’t get your way,” he added. “The president says, ‘oh, the Congress won’t do what I want, so I’ve got a pen and I’ve got my phone and I’m going to do what I want.’ The letter was to you.”

It was 2007, a little under a year away from the very memorable 2008 presidential election. It was a very chilly, winter evening in Los Angeles (the temps were in the high 40s!!), I was cozied up on the couch with my then boyfriend watching the political debates. These debates were before the primaries. It was pretty much the first time I had ever paid real, lasting attention to any type of political debate in my life, they had always seemed so boring before.

It seemed exciting this time and there was a charge in the air. Maybe it was for the same reasons that so many others were fascinated with the election that year - the fact that Barack Obama was running for president. Hilary Clinton made it interesting as well. The possibility of either America's first black president or first woman president was alluring. Plus, there was the big housing crash that had just occurred and spiraled so many people into financial ruin.

Here's my non-PC opinion on where the solutions need to come from. Illegal immigration is expensive for Americans. At a time of such economic anguish for our own citizens, we need to really understand what the root problems are and who actually has the ability to fix these issues.

Love is the most important thing in my life. I'm extremely loyal to my family and friends. I cherish time with my loved ones.  But nothing beats my relationship with my man. I treasure the cuddles, the intimacy (emotional, physical, and intellectual), the commitment, having a best friend who knows and accepts everything about me, the romance, and every gorgeous thing that goes along with a healthy romantic relationship. Something ominous is happening though. There aren't as many men. They are disappearing. Like aliens are snatching them up from the sky. What's weird is there are a lot of "boys" around now. And they're kind of old. Like late 20's and 30's. There's even some in their 40's. And they live with their parents. With no job.
