Senator Rand Paul’s speech makes me want to jump for joy

A politician who stands up for the Constitution – the law of the land which was written to limit the government’s power, not expand it.  So that We the People can truly have the FREEDOM to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Do you want to know why having Republican Senator Rand Paul stand up, fight for our rights and Congress’s, and tell the truth about the Obama administration trampling on the Constitution is good for you? If you don’t already know the answer, here it is: it’s because every country in the world, modern and ancient, that has citizens with limited freedoms and prosperity, have their liberties taken away by the overreaching powers of their governments.

A government trampling on your rights screws with the quality of your life.

All the countries in the world that I have visited, seen, and read about who have masses of impoverished citizens with little freedoms are that way because of their governments. It’s not because of disease, crime, lack of education, lack of opportunity, or even lack of money. No, those are only symptoms of powerful governments who make laws that confine the actions of their people.

Our Founding Fathers put the three branches of government in place to hold the other branches accountable. They did not want America to be ruled by a monarch, a king, an authoritarian, etc…that is not the kind of system that allows for people to have freedom.

Our very own president, Barack Obama, has said and acted in ways that looks like he thinks he is the king of America. It’s frightening.

Watch Senator Rand Paul below in his response about the war we are now in against the Islamic state that has been going on for 8 months without congressional authorization. It is refreshing to hear a representative actually REPRESENT the people. One who stands up for our country and our laws. I recommend you listen until the end. It’s good.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) “This is an administration that seeks to legislate when it is not in their purview, whether it be immigration, whether it be health care, or whether it be a war that’s been going on for eight months without congressional authorization,” he said, referring to the war against the Islamic State.

He blasted top Obama administration officials for ignoring the Constitution and not following our country’s laws themselves. Obama’s administration has consistently trampled on the Constitution.

“I’m not particularly happy with being lectured to by the administration about the Constitution,” Paul said. “This is an administration who I believe has trampled the Constitution at many turns.” Which they have.

Paul’s speech follows in the wake of an open letter to Iran’s leaders signed and sent by 47 American senators who believe, rightly, that Congress should be part of Iran’s nuclear program discussion, instead of just the president.

A Republican national security aide said (and I agree with), “The Senate should have a role. It would make any agreement have some sort of consistency and perpetuity beyond the president. And it would also be buy-in for the American people. Right now it’s just an agreement between the President of the United States and whoever the final signatory to the agreement is.”

The hypocrisy of the president knows no bounds. “This administration is in direct defiance of what Senator Obama ran on and what he was elected upon,” Paul added. “He said no country should go to war without the authority of Congress, unless under imminent attack.”

I don’t necessarily think this open letter to Iran was the best idea by these senators, but I understand why they did it. They are dealing with an administration who is breaking the law all over the place by not adhering to the Constitution. We have the Constitution and the separation of powers in place for very good reasons!

Short of impeaching a president who thinks he can make up whatever laws he feels like making up for this country, Congress is getting desperate in trying to stop a runaway administration that keeps making decisions and laws on their own without Congress.

If you ask me, we are on very dangerous ground when a president thinks he can just run the country on his own opinions and break the very representative system that created freedom and a high standard of living for the people of this country. He wants to put America to war without Congressional consent. It’s wrong. He shouldn’t do it. And what do you do when you keep telling him to stop and he won’t?

Paul said the message (regarding the open letter) was actually to President Obama. “The message I was sending was to you. The message was to President Obama, that we want you to obey the law, we want you to understand the separation of powers.”

“I signed it to an administration that doesn’t listen, to an administration that at every turn tries to go around Congress, because you think you can’t get your way,” he added. “The president says, ‘oh, the Congress won’t do what I want, so I’ve got a pen and I’ve got my phone and I’m going to do what I want.’ The letter was to you.”
